Installing a software non-system disk?

Hello everyone,
I know that OSX allows a user to install a software only on a system disk, under Application folder, the question is if there is a way how to install my applications on other place - such as a different non-system HD. Because of this issue i had to reinstall my partitioned HD, because the system partition C: ran out of a space for software. Also I know a friend who is getting a small SDD HD only for a OSX and was planning to install software on other disk - I asked him - how? Does anyone know?? HELP.
Sinceraly,
Vlado

You are WAY over thinking the problem!

Most OS x using people with small drives use a lot of external drives to move large files (iTunes Library & iPhoto Library). Read the Apple article iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder. Plus you can just hold down the 'option/alt' key will clicking on the iTunes icon.

Also you move your iPhoto Library to an external by following the article Move your iPhoto 09 Library to an External Drive.

Lastly learn on how to use Alias for Applications. I am not sure about your network setup but I launch programs from external ALLL the Time. I don't really know what you are asking?
