I erased my hard drive. I am now trying to reinstall Entourage as my email.

Question one: Do I need microsoft office on my computer to install entourage?

Question two: I'm thinking that Office came on my computer when I bought it. Do I now have to buy microsoft office?

Question three: If the answer to Question one is "NO" then where do I find download for Entourage.

  • Entourage is a standalone app. However, it serves only one good purpose. That is to communicate with Exchange servers, which it is not terribly good at. It is one of the reasons that Microsoft has killed it and will replace it with the first new version of Outlook:mac since 2001.
  • Many Macs ship with a trial version of Office. This version cannot be upgraded to the licensed version. To install the licensed version of Office[/n] you must first use the included uninstaller utility to uninstall the trial version. Then you may install the licensed version from the distribution DVD.
[*]Microsoft does not sell its fee-based software via digital download. You must buy the shrinkwrap version.
I use Entourage 2008 at work everyday. I do so because I must. I am not terribly high on this app. With it as my default email app, I lose some of the integration that I take for granted in Mail.

It is your money and you may spend it as you wish. Why exactly are you do bound and determined to install Entourage?

Entourage works with IMAP and POP accounts as well, and is perfectly suited as a standalone email client (even in the absence of an Exchange server) -- as far as any Microsoft product could, that is.

Five things:
  1. Of course, Entourage works with IMAP and POP3 accounts. So too do most other email clients available on MacOS X. The difference is that most of those other clients are free, but Entourage is not.
  2. In the absence of an Exchange server, what can Entourage do for you that most of the various and sundry free email clients cannot?
  3. In the presence of Exchange server, the latest version of Entourage is incompatible with every version of Exchange except one.
  4. For fun and valuable prizes, set Entourage as your default email client. Then click any mailto: URL in your Web browser.
  5. Did I say that Microsoft has dropped Entourage? Microsoft has dropped Entourage.
