I am currently running Mac OSX 10.3.9 Panther on my G4 PowerBook.
How do I upgrage to Tiger? I tried installing the discs and got a "cannot install on this computer" message.
The software is brand new out of the box, what do I do?
The software is brand-new out of _which_ box? The retail version of Mac OS X? Or another computer's installation disks? Because _those_ won't work, as we've established in another thread: http://www.macosx.com/forums/showthread.php?t=251588
About the hardware: Any G4 PowerBook supports Tiger as long as you have 512 MB of RAM or more... The message you're seeing, however, suggests that the disks are intended to install on one specific machine, i.e. it's _not_ the retail version.
What is the exact errror message? I've seen messages show after the install tried to do its thing that indicate your drive has damage it could not repair. Only doing a backup and reformat would allow me past the error. So as Twister asks - give us the details.
I've installed Tiger on my first gen ti Powerbook with zero problems. Even when it only had 256 mb or ram. Wasn't that incredibly slow (I have more now).
