Hi
I have a Imac Snow 600mhz. It showed signs of slowing down before it would just not be-boot any more. The grey screen and logo apppear followed by overlay telling me to restart. But it wont.
Started in single user mode but text just stops saying Panic:we are hanging here. I think the may be a Kernal Panic. Decided to reinstall the OSX Panther as i was told this would do the job. However when asked to select a drive to install the OS on there are no options, it does not appear and the install cannot be done.
Can anyone help? Or shall i just open the first floor window and push it out>????!

Kernel panics usually happen because of hardware problems. Have you tried reseating the RAM memory? If you turn it over, there's a section that you can easily open up to replace the memory. Just take it out and put it back in. Make sure you do this with the Mac off, of course. :)

Also, if you have any other peripherals, unlpug everything from the Mac except the keyboard and the mouse. If it starts up fine, then it might be the software from one of the peripherals that was connected to it. Plug each one back one-by-one so that you can figure out which device was causing the problem if this was the case. If you plug one in and the system starts to kernel panic again, then you know it was that particular device. Once you have that info, uninstall the driver for that device (if one was installed for it), download the latest version from the manufacturer's website, and reinstall it.
