I have been having this problem off and on for a year.

Click install, enter password, reboot. This is where thing get hincky somewhere in the installation it crashes with the type 'mac-boot' screen. It crashes at any point from the grey screen with progress bar to the installation almost being complete or no crash at all. Unforunately crash:success ration is 6:1 which wastes my time. My CD rom I cleaned and clean the disc. But after 9 crashes I need another option. I have the current fireware.

Can someone tell me how to install without running the installer. Or maybe a possible fix for this annoyance?

Apple is completely dumb founded after 3 hours and reaching tier 3 support and talking to 2 folks....it was concluded they didn't have a clue. I wish I could just copt it there and it would work like the good old days.

Are you trying to reinstall Jaguar? I can't tell since you didn't specify what you were installing.

Sounds like you're having issues with RAM. Have you tried using the memory that shipped with that Mac? Also, where did you get this memory...was it new or pulled from another machine? OS X is very picky about RAM and requires memory with good timing. I recommend trying out memory from Crucial, Kingston, Corsair, GeIL, OCZ, and other well-known RAM maufacturers.
