just ordered a 1 gig chip for a 15" powerbook. I had 2 256 chips in there and need to take one out for the new chip. Does it matter if the bigger chip goes in the top or bottom slot? thanks

I remember such questions from my pc-time where ppl tested whether the bigger SDRam in the first or second or even third bank matters. There was no difference what so ever. It would surprise me, if it would be different with powerbooks which use either SDRam as well (tibooks) or DDR (alubooks).

I remember it used to be a problem with my old 486 machine as it only supported certain configurations of RAM. For example if it would support 24 MB of RAM only if the 16 MB stick was in slot 1 and the 8 MB piece was in slot 2. Switching the position meant that the computer wouldn't boot.

It is highly unlikely that these problems still exist, especially with the Powerbooks.

thanks again for all of your help. I may switch them out to see if it would change anything. The computer recognizes all of the ram and everywhere i have looked it doesnot seem to say anything about it. I will post if there is a diff. thanks

As long as it fits, there is no problems. Some of the older PB's the larger chip would only fit in one slot.
