installing the "2nd" OSX cd... later?

Hi to everybody,

I manage to install the 1st CD of OSX in an old iBook 333mhz, but when it started installing the content of the "2nd" CD, it just went crazy.

I'm afraid the disc was dirty, etc. Then I just quit the installer, and a welcome message to OSX, with all config process was succesful. I'm online!

Now the question:

...Can I install the content of the 2nd CD now, after OSX is aparently running?

Many thanks,

Fernando

Not all installs require the second or third CD depending on what features have been deselected in the installation options. However, at the end of the installation there are some routines that are run by the installer and while not essential they are important. From your description I assume the install did not complete and those routines did not happen.

Frankly if I were you, and on the premise of better safe than sorry, I would clean up the second CD, and the third if necessary then do another erase and install, just to assure myself of a problem free future. This time, when you get to the install window with the Options button click on it, and be sure what you want installed on your iBook. You can easily leave out printer drivers you do not expect to use and language localization files you won't be needing. You can even leave BSD Unix out, but later on you may wish you had it. This will save you a significant amount of disk space on a drive as small as yours.

Every one I know had the same experience when installing OS X in an iMac G3-- installation of first disk is completed, dialog box prompts for second CD, that disk won't start up, quit installation, Welcome to Mac! runs and everything is then fine. After rebooting second disk works. Happened to me with both Jaguar and Panther; had no problems with my system after the installs.

So I don't think you have anything to worry about, fernando.alonso.

Thanks for both replys... so far I had no problems.

And I did the smallest intallation possible, taking off BSD, printer drivers, languages, etc...
Though I wonder if there's anything else I can do, to empty disk space... anything elst ot remove?

And someother strange issue:

When running MacJanitor for maintenance, the whole proccess is finnishinf in less than a sec... strange! is that because I remove the BSD..?

Thanks again. ;)

Most likely. Many of the maintenence stuff you come across relies on the BSD stuff to have been installed.

Doesn't the 2nd CD have a bunch of packages hidden on it? If you know how to use terminal a little you can find them and install them from there.

I would love to know more about the "terminal"... any idea where from?
is there a book/ site/ etc that can tell a bit of this?

And about the hidden packages... mmmmh! what to do now? 'cause the machine seams to be working fine so far...
