help!! the following message appears when i click the mac
install button on the newyorker startup dvd:

the destination folder "Disk_1_1998_2005" is on a
locked volume. please select another location.

i've contacted the new yorker's help desk 5 times and they have failed to help (perhaps they should try stuffing it). i've also tried to to disable preferences on stuffit expander but to no avail. any ideas?

When you're doing the install, a screen appears asking you where you want to install. This screen shows the drives that are available, which should usually be the hard drive and the New Yorker DVD you've inserted. It looks like you've selected the DVD, instead of your hard drive. Try the install again, and this time make sure you choose to install it to your hard disk and not to the DVD.

(The error message means that the files were trying to copy from the New Yorker DVD onto the same DVD, so its pretty clear what the mistake was).

thanks symphonix but the suggestion doesn't work. it's not true that "a screen appears asking you where you want to install." on my finder window i selected mac hd before opening the dvd. when i opened the dvd i got immediately the same old message: "the destination folder "Disk_1_1998_2005" is on a locked volume. please select another location." any other ideas?

A friend of mine is trying to install the NewYorker on his computer (a flowerpot iMac G4). I asked him if he was getting any error messages and here's his response: "Error message? I put the CD in the slot and push the eject button. The slot pulls the CD into the computer and whirls it around for about thirty seconds, then the slot opens and rejects the CD. No message."

He has had some problems burning CDs in the past with this drive, but he is able to read them (as far as I'm aware).

I'm thinking possibly that he's got some bad CDs, but was curious if anyone had similar issues?
