installing Tiger on an iMac 266

I was having a look at the system requirements for mac os 10.4 and it says you need to have built in firewire... I want to install mac os x on a spare iMac 266 I have... but they do not have firewire... do I really need it? is there way around it... and why do I need it? thanks
 
You need it because Apple says so, isn't that reason enough? In all honesty you probably should reconsider trying to install Tiger (and possibly any version of OS X for that matter) on a 266MHz iMac. The experience you get from it isn't going to be a pleasant one, particularly on that machine and especially if you have less than 512MB of RAM.

If you still want to try it, then XPostFacto is probably going to be what you need.
