Installing Tiger on G4 PowerMac

I want to install OS X Tiger on my Mac because 1.) I have been having errors (see previous post) and 2.) I would like to upgrade. But I keep getting an error screen saying I need to restart. I never usually get passed the preparing installation menu. How do I wipe out the hard drive so theres no more errors so I can install Tiger or would a linux distro work? If so what kind. Or a new Hard Drive? Something and I have no visual I can't get out of console(see previous post for more info). This is my first mac ad I am soo lost.
 
Depending on the Power Mac G4 that you have, you might need a firmware upgrade. Unfortunately, you need a bootable installation of OS 9 in order to perform the firmware upgrade (this obviously is only on G4 Power Macs that CAN boot into pre-OS X operating systems, and understandably so that it would only work on pre-OS X operating systems since those were the main OS at the time of the hardware release).
