AIM does everything I need, I can talk to everyone in my family (and most of the peeps from school) and the best feature is the file transfer. Works like a champ.

Oh... proteus does do multi-client? Oh.... i forgot about that.

Yeah, if you need that multi-client feature, proteus would be better...

does anybody know how to prevent proteus from bringing itself to the front when a message arrives? i have WORK to do, man! :)

it's the bestest IM software so far, by far. definitely. but the aforementioned bug makes me angry sometimes... :)

may be nicer than proteus (difficult) but BETTER? where is ICQ support? MSN support? proteus rocks, fire too (although proteus definitely rocks better). adium is AIM without the weight plus nicer. that's not enough for ICQ people.

Ahh yes, but say I don't use ICQ, MSN (evil) or any of those other services? Then what is the extra weight of Proteus or Fire good for? :p

Yeah, in terms of single-client use (just using AIM), Adium's client is a lot better. Have you seen Adium prefs? It's frankly a bit scary how much customizability you have--almost too much. :)

So Adium only uses AIM protocols? Blah.

I like the fact that I can use multiple protocols in Proteus. Just because I don't use multiple protocols doesn't mean I have no use for them. Not everyone I know uses one protocol. Most use ICQ, some use MSN, and one person that I have on my contact list uses AIM.

OK, here's a downfall of Proteus. Since I don't have an AIM account, I can't add AIM users. Fire could do that. But it's not a big deal, my friend who has AIM also has MSN, and she usually just logs on to MSN anyway.

ICQ has probably the stupidest scheme for users, being only numbers. Of course, I've been using ICQ from nearly the beginning, so 190741 is not hard to remember. But it's not very intuitive to connect 154684321321874615 with your friend Bob. Or was that Sally? Or...?

Just sharing my opinion, not trying to convert anyone to my way of thinking...

Edit: Forgot some words -- made my sentences make even less sense than usual ;)

I had ICQ relatively early and got the pretty easy to remember ICQ number 40181701 .... whether I am still able to access that or not, I don't know... maybe if I could remember my password...?

Uh, have you tried the 'Forgot password' thingy? (Sorry for the technical jargon ;) )

Assuming, of course, that you really care...

Good call, but no.. my email address (and ISP) has changed five times since then. I dont even know what email address they'd have on file :)
