I was wondering if anyone there knows of a website that lists all the Core 2 Duo CPU's that fit the Intel Mac Mini. Apparently its a Socket M 479?, and the Merom and Yonah are compatible. But maybe there are several others? I've got a 1.5ghz Solo and am anxious to be able to watch HD 1080p on a 24" 1920 x 1280 monitor. The more I have to search for the easier its going to be to get one. I'm searching the used market so its wide open in availability.
And has anyone successfully overclocked these Minis? I'm quite sure a chipset heatpipe design heatsink would fit on the Mini (I don't use the top on mine and am presently using a 120mm fan to cool the whole board including the heatsink. So the plastic housing holding the speaker, fan, etc is gone. Temperatures are the lowest of any Mini I've ever seen. Typically just slightly above ambient. But with overclocking I realize the stock heatsink will have to be replaced with something with more radiating area. Perhaps a video card heatsink might work as well. As long as the heatpipes raise the heatsink far enough off the motherboard to fit. I could put a chipset heatsink on the Southbridge (I think its a Southbridge) chip on the bottom as well for additional cooling should it be necessary. It presently uses a heatpad and the bottom of the Mini to radiate heat. This is probably OK as long as the surface the Mini is placed on remains cool. But using it without the base is always an option as well. Then I would have to mount it in some frame.
