interesting cdrom predicament

Clarus

MOOF!
Ok, so im turning an old beige G3 into a YDL box and I have hit an interesting snag.

The cdrom drive will mount a cd as the boot disk (eg. prepping the hard drive for a linux partition)

But when the computer actually boots in 9 the cdrom will read no disks.
- Ive checked the apple system profiler and it wont see the cdrom. But the extensions for it are installed and running.

This is an apple default cdrom that came with the computer and to my knowledge it used to work fine.

any ideas people? Thanks in advance.

Since the CD drive does work to boot the computer, I would check over to see if you have all the extensions needed for it to read cds.
You need in OS 9:
Apple CD (dvd) driver
Apple Packet Media Access
Audio Cd access
Foreign File Access
ISO 9660 File Access
UDF Volume Access

If you are missing these, the best bet is to do a clean install of OS 9.
