intermittent internet-MACorISP problem?

Hi there,

We have a Power Mac G5 (three years old). For the last month we have been (intermittently) unable to acheive and/or maintain an cable internet connection (Rogers is our ISP-no routers being used). The system's diagnostics seem to show that the internet connection is fine, but we may have 'typed in the apple home page address incorrectly'. However the email also doesn't work whenever we are having this problem with the internet.

We have found a temporary (and highly annoying) solution, that is-the page seems to go through when we disconnect the ethernet cable from the back of the modem and plug it in right away again. Then whatever page or search we were in the process of works. It stops working after a few seconds though, so we have to sit with the modem on our lap unplugging it and plugging it in repeatedly, and clicking really fast on whatever link/info we are looking for:).

I have called Rogers many times (they can't seem to figure it out) and have even got a new modem recently to see if that was the problem-it doesn't appear to have helped at all though.

Also the entire system seems slow in general over the last few months, not sure if that's related though. We're always trashing as many things as we can to avoid the slow down, but it seems to be happening anyway.

Perhaps we need to reinstall software?

Pls advise and thanks for your time!
