internal to external dvd

I have a powerbook G4. 800, combo drive, 512 ram. It is about two years old. The combo drive went out. I have a super-drive from a powermac, I want to use it as an external drive. I have a firewire box that i was using to make an internal harddrive external. Could this work the same way? and what kind of drivers would I need?

thanks

No drivers needed -- just check with the vendor of the FireWire case and make sure it supports ATAPI mode (which is required for most optical drives) and then slap the optical drive in there.

Be aware, though, that by using it externally, the iApps won't be able to use it for DVD purposes. iTunes should still be able to burn CDs on it, but iDVD won't recognize it.

Thanks, I have the drive and it plays dvds, and toast will burn but is there a "hack-trick-ect" to fix this?

DVR-104PD is the drive
