Hi there,
So I have an Imac and I was on the internet one day not too long ago and in the middle of a software update it just froze (and when I the software update not the computer) and when I tried to refresh it...it said there it was no longer connected to the internet. When I went to the top right where I always go to check the network availability, the network icon disappeared completely. So now all that's there is the antivirus icon, the 'No Airport card installed' icon, the blue tooth icon, and icon that looks like this - "<...>" which says open network preferences and only ethernet 2 is there which says not connected. There is no wireless option or any others.
Does this sound like a virus problem? I rebooted it several times and no luck. It's a fairly new computer..I got it in 2010 and don't have windows or any other major program that can disrupt it. When I go to the Network diagnostics, the Network Status on the left side - all 5 categories say failed. (ethernet, network settings, ISP, Internet and Server all have the red dot). I live in a basement so initially thought it was a lost connection but the main computer's internet upstairs still works and so does the internet on my roommate's laptop. It was a wireless connection before and now the only network port configuration options is Ethernet and 'other'.
I don't remember which part is was in the network section exactly but there was a firewall and airport option before and it said if you try to connect it may alter your internet connection on the computer...and I think I may have pressed that at some point, but when I contacted Rogers they said it was a Mac Support issue and they can't help me basically. Please help! I am beyond confused. What's wrong with my IMac and how do I set up the wireless internet on it again?
Feedback to help this issue is much appreciated. Thanks.
Sincerely,
Captiveheart
