Internet Flaky

my internet seems to be extremely flaky. it works for 1 min., then it stops working. my internet provider seems to believe that i have some sort of adware on my computer, but i thought adwares didn't attach to macs.
My network status in system preferences reads GREEN with, "Built-in Etherent is currently active and has the IP address [....]. You are connected to the Internet via Built-in Ethernet." But i still cannot connect. I have restarted my imac a hundred times, my roommates internet works fine, i disconnected and reconnected my ethernet from both the wall and my mac a hundred times, i ran disk utilities, i even ran disk repair ("/sbin/fsck -y"), i even replaced my ethernet cord, i turned off my ethernet and turned it back on again, but it still does not work!
what do i do to get my internet to work?
this is so aggravating...
 
Try deleting your internet connection, restarting then type all the details in manually again. I had a similar problem a while back and I had to format before things worked.
