Internet intermittent connection issues

My Internet connection periodically stops. Email access stops, web pages stop, etc. Other comps on my network don't have the issue. It's not all the time, but it is every day. I haven't tested with a new test account, because I simply don't have the down time, but I would love some diagnostic tool or technique that will allow me to continue working and test when the connection goes down... Ideas?
 
Network is not user specific.
How is your network? Wired, wireless...? if wireless, what type of security?
When it stops, open Console (/Applications/Utilities) and see what shows in it when you try to access anything.
