So heres the skinny. I transferred all my music to an external drive (Wd My Book Studio Edition (for Mac) 500g). Everything was going great until I decided to plug the new drive into my second computer (a Mac laptop with the same version of itunes 7). It didnt import the music correctly so I dismounted the drive
.. but when I remounted the external drive back to my main computer some 6000 songs got exclamation marks. When I looked for the songs, their artist folders and album folders were still in the correct location but empty. Eventually I located the music tracks in the infamous unknown Artist folder where somehow they all got dumped. All 6000 songs have the their song titles intact but all other information (artist name
.. album name
genre) has been erased. Now, I know I messed up somewhere but the million-dollar question is can this be undone? Is there a way to relink this missing information to the songs without having to manually enter it in? Heres further information to help any brave troubleshooter who is willing to grant me pitty. 1) All songs were imported thru itunes. 2) I tried highlighting the songs in question and using the Get CD Track Names function under the advanced bar in the menu but this command yielded a alert window which read itunes cannot get CD track names for songs that were not imported using itunes. To allow itunes to look for CD track names for this song, import the song again using itunes. Again all songs were imported via itunes. 3) My keep itunes music folder organized option is checked (and was checked) in the general/ advanced/ preferences. Can anyone help me solve this problem? Any advice or just the cold truth on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
