IP Self Assigned Problem

Recently I gave my Mom a clamshell Graphite iBook DV. It is running a fresh copy of 10.2.3.

It is hooked up to an older model Linksys 4 port wireless router, through wireline.

Intermittently it decides not to see the router and subsequently the internet. The IP address becomes self assigned. If she switches ports in the back of the router, the problem sometimes goes away. We have done IP address refresh, port jiggeling, reset PR, Fixed IP address, and etc. She just sometimes loses the connection.

My Mom is buying a replacement cable. We haven't tried wireless.

Any suggestions?

No problems here with the same model router & 10.2.3. I have my machine configured with a manually asigned IP address. Are you getting DHCP'd by the router? If so, that is one potential problem source that you may want to test against. Try manually configuring your IP address and see if you still have the same problems.

Failing that, you may have a bad router (but I've never seen a Linksys router go bad before... usually they are very reliable).
