iphoto corrupting my pictures after editing

iPhoto is corrupting my pictures after I edit them & I am not able to view the picture, in full screen mode & also find the original file. I am getting scared of this because my entire photo library is on iphoto & i don't have any backups. I know that's silly & I am going to create a back up now. But in the meanwhile, please help with this.

Try opening the file with Preview or Photoshop. If it opens then save the file to create a working file. You could also try Google Picasa, it is very similar to iPhoto.

Thanks for the quick response. I dont use Photoshop. I have google picasa but didn't want to change over to a new software. Any idea why this is happening - i.e. iPhoto corrupting picture files that it is editing? I have been trying with pictures since this morning & it keeps corrupting the files once in a while. Not all pictures but some get corrupted. Do you think it has got to do with the size of my picture library? Currently my library is 50GB+.
