iPHOTO crashes now

Just stick with the defaults in the "Cleaning" and "Maintenance" Tabs.

In the "Cleaning" section, work your way through the "Internet", "Caches", "Logs", "Trash" & "Misc" sub-tabs.

In the "Maintenance" section, work your way through the "Permissions", "Scripts", "Reset" & "Optimise" sub-tabs.

You'll be prompted to restart your Mac from time to time so do that and if your Mac takes longer than usual to get to the login screen, don't worry as this is normal.
 
Thanks. I'll check these out. Also, ran cleaning and maintenance and carefully chose anything that doesn't destroy my auto settings. Nothing.
 
Two interesting things are now happening: I checked out the troubleshooting links suggested by PBear. I had already done a number of the easier ones is firstaid, disku, etc. but one of the easiest was "create new user." So, 1) I created a new user and, lo and behold, iPhoto WILL launch under that user. There is nothing in any files or folders so I assume that's because it's a new user, but it did launch; however, 2) the Cinema display now resets to "Generic RGB Profile" when iPhoto opens in the other user, you cannot change it, if you click on it, I get the Sound you get if you click on something that doesn't launch or work. When I logout and let the other user open, the Display has now reset in that user account as well, cannot do anything with the display settings. To get back to the calibrated display, or to choose a different setting than "Generic RGB profile" you have to restart the computer. Now, isn't that a kick in the pants!

So, good news, bad news. The iPhoto will launch on this computer under a different user. However, the program resets the cinema display to Generic RGB Profile and you cannot change it unless you reboot.

Any new suggestions? Interesting, huh!

If you have tried all the troubleshooting steps in the links I posted, I suggest you run an Archive and Install while "Preserving user and network preferences". Create a backup of your data first, just in case.
 
Here's what happened yesterday. If you recall, (actually this may be in the first thread), I uninstalled iPHOTO 6, did the transfer firewire thing, etc. And lo and behold it would launch, but it defaulted to the generic rgb profile on the display. Had to reboot to change the display.

Well, yesterday, I get this "new software" message and it says "There is new software update for your iPhoto 4." I had removed 6 and put 4 on. So, what the heck, I ran the upgrade to 4.0.3. Then, tried to open the photos and I got a message "these photos were saved using a newer version of iphoto. install the newer version. " so, for snix, I then reinstalled the iphoto 6 on top of the 4.0.3 upgrade.

It works.

All the original folders are there with no pictures in them. The pictures exist in a different folder in my xyz/pictures since I couldn'tt use iPHOTO for over a year. But, I can import and move photos into iPhoto again. Guess it's "fixed" for now.

Now, if I could just get the HP Photosmart printer to stop hanging my computer when it goes to sleep, I'll be good to go (I had to downtech the USB connection from 2.0 to the lower speed in order to get it to stop)

Thanks for all your help. Glad I didn't have to go through all those "steps" just to reinstall the iPhoto.
