iphoto great but I can't use it

Well, I really love iPhoto its an amazing app except I can't use it to organize my pictures. Since I have multiple users on my mac I put all the pictures in the shared folder, so everyone can see them. When I import them into iphoto it makes a copy into my user directory. This means that other users can't see my photo albums. Also it means I take up double the hard disk space. I should be able to save the pictures and albums in the shared folder.

It appears that Apple hasn't thought about a multiuser enviorment where people share picutres.

Am I missing something? Can this be done or has Apple not noticed this problem.

Nah thats probably just a feature that Apple didn't think about. Something else to look forward to iPhoto 2.

I think you can solve the problem by making a symbolic link from your Pictures/iPhoto Library directory to the shared directory, however this could result in a potential permissions problem and would not solve the double-name problem unless you were willing to live with the cryptic iPhoto names for everything in the shared directory.

Unfortunately iPhoto does not appear to support what you are trying to do so any solution is apt to be a bit of a hack, sorry.
