iphoto lag normal?

If I have a album with like 800MB photos in iPhoto, is it normal that the app runs like a dog?

I think it may be normal, but just checking.

It is normal.... you can improve it by closing the folders in photoshop (or rolls at it names it).

The problem is that opening the images is not made in parallel, so it waits for the display.

PhotoPresenter does a better job. www.curvuspro.ch

Thanks,

You mean in iPhoto right?

I'll try out photo presenter. I want to run a slide show with like.... ALL my pics just for the heck of it :-)

So we have to close rolls? My iPhoto needs help to as it take forever to open and takes over my puter. It needs a major speed kick in the butt.

#1 close roles (save for the one you're dealing with)
#2 turn off shadows

These two things made a night/day difference in my iPhoto library (currently around 3k photos).

Yes, shadows is the second problem.

It's strange that such features can still slow down a display... but Apple seems to have hired a few engineers from M$.

I can't wait to get home now. Maybe i won't be so afraid to open my iPhoto. Just out of curiosity... i can re-open rolls right?

I claim ignorance... what are rolls?

Removing shadows helped, but that other program, PhotoPresenter, is still way better. (but it crashes sometimes!)

It just "closing" the roll so you don't see the pictures. In "Photo Library" just click on the black arrow where it says things like "Roll 11 01/01/03, 10 photos" it will close all the little thumbnails from that import session. Not having to read all the pictures to open thumbnails is a huge boost. Just click on the black arrow again, to see the thumbnails of that roll.
