iphoto library purging?

after importing my camera's photos via iphoto, there are always pix i don't want. i've always just selected those pix in iphoto and simply hit delete thinking that would permanently delete them from the library, not just remove them from the album in iphoto. i came to find out that this is not the case and that i should have been moving them to the trash (and emptying) for complete deletion from the harddrive.

is there an AUTOMATIC way to purge my iphoto library of all the photos which are not being accessed by iphoto? by now, there are many unwanted photos in there, so i don't want to have to manually compare the library folder to what photos are actually appearing in iphoto or something like that which would be crazy time consuming. seems like iphoto would come with some purging tool that does this without me having to use some 3rd party automation software or something. thanx...!

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean. You should be able to right-click (or command-click or two-finger-on-trackpad-click) the photo in "photos" (make sure "photos" is selected on the left side of the window) and click "move to trash."

Let us know if that doesn't work. I tried dragging a photo to the Trash on the dock, and in 10.6 it doesn't work for some reason (iPhoto 8.1.1). But dragging the photo to the Trash window does work.

By the way, that should work for several selected files as well, a quick way to trash multiple pix.
