iphoto load pictures

I recently started downloading my pictures from my digital camera into iPhoto 5. I don't like deleting the pictures from my memory card because I print them from my card and also download them to other computers. Every time I plug in my camera it goes through every single picture. Every time I tell it not to download duplicates and to apply this to every picture, but it takes a lot of time to go through the hundreds of pictures on my card before it gets to the 3 at the end that I want to download. Also, I don't want some of the pictures on my mac and delete them from iPhoto (because I don't know how to prevent it from downloading them in the first place), but the next time I plug in my camera it downloads them all over again! Are there ways to bypass these problems? Thanks!
By the way- my camera is the Canon Powershot A75

I clear the card every time for exactly this reason. If ever I want to print a photo from memory card, I simply drag it from iPhoto onto the memory card's icon on the desktop to copy it back. I can't help but think there must be a better way around this, though.

I believe Image Capture (in your App Folder), will give you thumbnails of your camera card's pics that you can selectively download, versus the all-or-none option of iPhoto.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with the problem. I was thinking about using image capture, but I think it only imports one photo at a time, which is also annoying, and then I would move everything into iPhoto anyway. Does anyone know how to really deal with the iPhoto problem directly?

Just to make sure I have this correct...
You want to use iPhoto to manage your pics, including downloading from the camera, but you don't want to delete them afterwards from the card. Thereby your card will have an ever increasing number of photos of which, at future dates, you will only want to download to iPhoto the most recent pics without going through all the ancient ones.

I don't think you are going to get there from here unless Apple modifies iPhoto. I would contact them and make the request.

I was hoping there's a way around it that I don't know about. On my Windows computer I never had a problem- when I plugged in my camera it just downloaded the new pictures, or the ones I chose.

Make the suggestion to Apple. In the first or second drop down menu within iPhoto, you'll find the option to provide feedback.

Thanks, I will. I just wish I could feel like all my suggestions actually get read and considered...
