iphoto not will not respond

hello.

my iphoto stopped working a little while ago, it wouldnt open. i would press the icon and it would jump, but nothing would happen.
so i tried copying one from someone elses mac, same thing. it is there, all my photos are there but it will not open.
so i found my discs and i reinstalled the programs, all the other ilife programs were and are still fine after the reinstall, but then again iphoto is not working. just jumps when i click it and does not respond.
i found a thread on here about a similar problem, so i followed the instructions and repaired the disc and then went to look for com.apple.iphoto.plist to trash it and its not there.
i really am at a loss i dont know what to do short of reinstalling my entire operating system.
any help would be great

Resetting Launch Services

Does the same thing happen when you log into a new account? Apple menu > System Preferences > Accounts > click on the + sign. You'll need your admin password to create a new account.

You don't say what version iPhoto you have. You might have made matters worse by 'copying' your friend's version.
Save your iPhoto Library to another place on your computer.
Trash all the iPhoto file. Make sure you go to hard drive>Library>Receipts and trash all the iPhoto files from there.
Empty the trash.

Install iPhoto from your disks.
Import your iPhoto library files using import in iPhoto.
