iPod Battery too dead to even boot?

Someone kinda, uh, stole, my iPod for a week, and kept forgeting to give it back to me until yesterday. Well, the battery was obv. dead, but when i went to plug it in, it didnt even start to charge. Can the battery have sat there for so long that it wont even respond to AC power anymore? As far as i know nothing happend to the iPod in its absence, but im going to check unless its starts to work. Anyone else had a case of the thing just not doing anything?

Sounds like it's crashed. Try holding PLAY and MENU down (Hold must be off) for about 10 seconds (15 just to be sure) and see if anything happens.
If nothing, leave it alone for 24 hours and try again.

Ive tried the reset thing many times, unplugged, plugged in, turned hold on and off and tried it, nothign works. And its been sitting w/o a battery for like 5 days, so i dont think 24 horus is going to help my situatuion.
