ipod library all greyed out!!

Please help, I'm @ my wits end.

I have a normal PC but have seen topics assisting people with this problem, so hoping you can help:-

I have plugged my ipod into my pc and the library is listed with my songs but they are all greyed out. I cannot play them, edit them or add new ones. The only things I can play are 3 random songs like Beethoven and sample music that has appeared on my ipod. It is a black 30gb video ipod.

I think this is something to do with preferences but I do not know what to alter / press? Help :-(

Did you set your ipod to play on a mac? If so, it won't play on a pc (and vice a versa). Make sure your iTunes on your pc is logged into your iTunes account; maybe some of your songs are DRM'ed and iTunes must verify?

An iPod will appear this way if it is tethered (set to sync music) to a different Mac than the one it is connected to. To change this, check the "Manually manage music and videos" checkbox.
