iPod mini firmware

I heard a rumour a couple of months or so ago, that Apple was going to release an update to the iPod mini's firmware so that it'd have the same functionality as the 4G iPod (i.e. speed control for audible book playback, multiple on the go playlists, etc).

Can anyone confirm whether this happened or not?
