Ipod won't mount USB

I am getting pretty pissed with this iPod Shuffle!
Its just plain quirky. Last week I tried plugging it into my G4 USB on the keyboard and out back. No Dice. I rebooted. Nuthin
Then I plugged it into the keyboard USB. Then it worked.
Now again it won't mount anywhere. I've rebooted and tried it while it was turned on, turned off, and with iTunes open and closed.
Mac Quicksilver 933 ghz, USB 1.0, 1 gig RAM, OS 10.4

After I bought it, I was told it won't charge on my Mac - so I had to spend more $ on a charger. Despite when I bought it, they said it would - if I buy a USB extender. So I bought the extender for no reason.

I searched for answers here but found none.
Please help!

O.k. I found the problem.. I think
I downloaded the latest iPod Update - and now it mounts.
But it still took me 3 or 4 times of plugging and disconnecting.

I am having the same issue.

Worked fine at first. I have the little dock thing, going into a USB 2.0 port.

I have just upgraded to 10.4.3, and I am running the latest version of iTunes. System profiler sees the iPod, iTunes doesn't.

I have tried everything, including trying to plug it into my Windoze lappy - Windows recognises it as an External drive, but iTunes doesn't see it.

This is driving me nuts - Any ideas greatfully received.

Thanks
