Ipods for the blind

Also the new iPod Shuffles have the voice feature - if the iPod will only be used for listening to stuff it might be one option to consider.
If it needs other functions than just listening to music, then iPod Touch will be a better option.
 
It depends on what this person will use it for. If it's mainly for music then the iPod Shuffle will be the best (with the VoiceOver feature).

As you can see, there is no specific iPod for a blind person but there is useful features that make the iPod easy to use without looking at the screen ;)
 
I agree, it seems like something he's likely not to like at all. And I am sorry to hear of his problem. It's a really tough thing when you can not see. I would just the same drop apple a note on this, as this does not sound like a salesperson Apple would want to have representing them. At some point the Touch will be good for a lot of things but, that time has not come yet.
