Is Classic even loaded?

Newbie here.

I just picked up a used iBook and it is running 10.4.8

I have some older classic apps and wanted to load them on. Before doing that how can I tell if Classic is even loaded on the iBook or do I need to use a set of 9.2 bootable disks I already own? The reseller did not give me the original disks that came with the iBook, but made me a bootable OSX disk in case I needed it.

Thanks.

Goto System Preferences > Classic and it will search for a classic installtion for you.
or click on the Macintosh HD hard drive icon. If you see System Folder and Applications (MacOS 9) at the root level of Macintosh HD, then you (probably) have Classic installed.

Duh, I guess that's easy enough. If I don't see, do I simply load it on from my older bootable 9.2 disks? Anything I need to do before that, like partition drives?

Depends. If the iBook's drive is missing OS 9 support, you won't be able to boot from OS 9. Also if the iBook's too new, it won't boot an OS 9 installation CD at all. If that's the case, you'll need the original system installation disk(s) for the iBook, which includes the Classic Environment.

Since no specific iBook model was provided, it will be assumed that the iBook in question is 'System 9.2' boot-able.

'... do I simply load it on from my older bootable 9.2 disks?' - no. You will install 'System 9.2' from the boot-able 'Mac OS 9' install disc. Boot from the 'Mac OS 9 install disc, and launch its respective 'Mac OS Install' installer application.

'Anything I need to do before that, like partition drives?' - no; but, you can. It is matter of personal preference. Also, if you do - you will have to back up the current contents, and perform separate 'System 9.2' and 'MacOS X' installations.

Well, can you inform us what kind of iBook it is? G3/300, 366, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900 or a G4 model of some kind?

It would be better if you could install it onto an external hard drive or find another computer that already has it and then simply copy the Applications (Mac OS 9) and System Folder folders over to your iBook's HD.

I just feel weird about installing Mac OS 9 onto a drive that already has 10.x on it using the Apple 9 installer.
