Is it normal, or am I a complete moron?

I have a powerbook (15" 1GHz model).

I was burning audio CDs one after the other (about 20), then when I was going to burn the next one, it spat the CD out as if it couldn't read it. I thought it was just the CD, that it wasn't blank, so I tried another one. Then another one... then I tried a DVD; but nothing is working. So basicall, my computer takes every CD/DVD in, then it 'tries' reading it, then it spits out again.

All the discs I've been trying have no scratches, and are a normal size. I even tried inserting the Apple CD that came with the computer, but nothing is working.

I mean, I was burning CDs fine right before that (using iTunes). Was I not suppose to burn CD after CD like that? Is there anyway around this problem? I need to burn a few CDs and DVDs right away too... so hopefully this can get answered in a hurry. But most importantly, can anyone help me fix this? Thanks.

If the playlist you're burning has any music that you purchased from the iTunes Music Store, you must make changes to that playlist before you can burn it again.

This exists to deter people from downloading copyrighted music, then burning a jillion copies of it to hand out freely.

Just make a small change to the playlist, then try burning again.

If your playlist includes songs that were purchased from the Music Store (iTunes 4 only), you can only burn 7 copies of the same playlist to an audio CD. If you can't burn a CD that contains purchased songs, make sure you haven't tried to burn the same playlist 7 times. Additionally, if the song has not been authorized to play on the computer, it will not burn.

20 times sounds a bit excessive, but Apple recently changed the number of allowed burns of purchased music, so it's not out of the question.

Actually, the songs were just from another CD that didn't come from iTunes Music Store.

Also, it's not just the burning that I'm having a problem with... any sort of CD inserted in the drive is read then ejected. I did try to reset the power management (I think its called). Thanks though, I appreciate that.

You might want to try a cleaning disk -- burning CD after CD after CD may have somehow gotten the lens dirty, and that can cause the inability to recognize inserted disks.

Other than spitting the disks back out at you, does the drive seem to operate normally? Can you hear the disk being spun-up when you insert it? Does it make any noises that it shouldn't be (grinding, clicking, howling at the moon...)?
