is my DVD / CDRW drives for mac bootable?

How do I know if my CDRW / DVD reader is bootable? I have no bootable DVDs to try but was going to buy Tiger on DVD but am not sure if it will install.
I have a 700 mhx PowerPC G4 15" LCD with 512 MB.

It should install just fine. Just hold down the C key after you hear the startup chime. Macs have been able to boot from the CD for years now.
