Is my powerbook dead?

I was running firefox and msn messenger and all of sudden everything froze up, I couldn't even move the cursor. I did a force shut down by holding down the power button and when I turned it back on the fan was louder than it's ever been and the screen was blank, I didn't even get the chime sound. It's been like this since, i've tried a few things which I found on the net but nothing seems to work.

Have you:

1. Zapped the PRAM (hold down Apple-Option-P-R when you hear the Mac chime).
2. Reset the PMU (Check here for the procedures specific to your PowerBook).

Thanks for your reply, yes i've tried both of these, although the problem with the first one is that I don't even hear the chime sound. Another strange thing i've noticed is the F5 key activates the num lock instead of F6, so I hit F5 and F6 lights up.
