Is Office 2004 worth the upgrade

I currently have Office v.X one of the first programs i got for my mac, lol. and i was thinking about upgrading to Office 2004 for OS X but my main question is, is Office 2004 worth the upgrade from X. and what new features are in it?

I don't use Powerpoint or Entourage, i use Keynote 2, and Mail instead. The only real problems in Office i would use is Word and Excel.

If you have to add a lot of mp3 files to your word documents, sure. I'm amazed that I haven't still seen a word doc of a size of 2 GB ... (for other uses, I think you are fine wiht the previous version)

I don't think it's worth the upgrade. In many cases, Ofice v.X is much faster than office 2004.

I just got 2004 after using V.X for years. I can't really say it's all that worth it, given the cost.

Yes, it's better, nicer, cleaner, looks better, but in terms of pure function and usability, it's pretty the same set of apps we've all been using for a while now.

I do like Excel's new approach (defaults to showing a paginated layout) and its smart information widgets. If you do a lot of Excel, I'd say consider it, but otherwise it's probably not worth it.

2004 feels noticeably more "OS X" than v.X.

I use Office a lot, but never for anything complicated or demanding, so I can't say much about in depth feature and such.

From what I've seen, it would be worth mostly because of Entourage, but since you don't use it...

What I noticed the most was that little tool box in Word and Ecel, specially the part about compatibility with other versions of the same software. But just for that, I don't think it's worth it.

Oh, and I liked the integrated Portuguese dictionary, but I guess YOU won't really miss it... :D

It really depends in my view of the upgrade price? I have used all the version of M$ Office, and do find this one the best one. The compatibility checker is useful for me because I type my reports on my Mac, but the secretary has to use them on her PC. Which of course at our office is outdated, they are using and older version of Word for windows.
I agree that this version is definitely more Mac like than previous versions. And since it really just came out, perhaps it is worth it to stay current.
Overall, if you have no reason to upgrade, then don't waste the money. :D

If Entourage and the notebook feature of Office 2004 are not of particular interest to you, take a look at NeoOffice/J. A cocoa port of OpenOffice.Org. It is still in beta, but it still seems a viable replacement for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint plus a very nice drawing app. It is compatible with the equivalent Microsoft file formats and best of all is the price - FREE.
