Is there a batch print function in OS X?

In windows, you can right click on a selection of say, 20 files, and select Print...

Windows will print them all.

Can Mac OS X do something like this? You see, I have a new job maintaining an e-commerce site that distributes thousands of PDF files. I tried using Panther to convert a PDF and it was significantly smaller than the original PDF, and all the text was still selectable, and formatted just as expected.

So I may be able to save the company hundreds of megabytes of disk space and reduce their bandwidth costs if I can convert ALL the files to PDFs anew, with Panther.

What is a good solution to batch process the "Save as PDF..." function in the print window? Is there a good applescript for it?

Thanks!!!

I don't know how to do the batch Save as PDF in Panther, but you may want to try PdfCompress 4.3 (versiontracker.com). Drag and drop PDF uber-compression. I use it a lot for its simplicity and speed.

Not sure if you can use Acrobat to batch-optimize PDFs. I just tried for like five seconds and gave up.

I believe that if you push Option-Return, or hold Option and push Okay, it should save your settings, so you can just print all the files as PDF's without having to choose PDF for each. It will become the default output.

can you be more specific? Where do you hold option exactly? How would you ever remove the setting so you can change it to something else???
