Is there any way to override user profiles?

I just recently purchased an iMac at a garage sale for very cheap, I was skeptical, but I got it home & it does work. However, when I turned it on I realized it had 2 user profiles set up on it & I can't get into them... Actually, I don't want to get into them, I would just like to get into the computer to see what programs are on it. Is there any way to override these profiles? Is there a button I can hit when it's booting up to make it boot like it would've before the profiles were put on it?

I'm a PC user, but would also like to get into Macs... I used to work w/ one at my last job & like them. I know at work sometimes if a box came up to enter a password you could hit cancel and it would continue on, but I've tried that and it doesn't work. If anyone can help me I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

PS~ I'm sure it's OS 9.???? if this helps.

Did any CDs come with it? If so, your best bet is to put in the OS install disc and hold down the "C" key during bootup to boot from the CD.

Probably not. You need to either contact the guy you bought it from and ask for a password, or buy some Mac OS CD's (whether it's OS X or OS 9). We could help you decide which CD's to buy if you gave us the specs of the iMac.

You can hold down the option key at boot time ("alt") to see whether there's another operating system installed as well (i.e. OS X). Although that, too, wouldn't get you much further, I guess. You will need a system installation CD at some point, anyway.

OK, thanks for all of your help. It is OS 9.1, at least that's what it says when it first boots up. I'm going to try to find something on Ebay.

Thanks again!

OK, I bought a CD, so now what should I do. I held down the "c" key while the computer was loading, and told it to install, but when I restarted it it came back to the profiles... I found a place to initialize, but didn't do it because I wasn't really sure what that meant... Is that what I should do?

Thanks!
