Is Warcraft III is a dog for you?

I downloaded the Warcraft III demo, and fired it up. First few levels went OK, but the last level with the time limit, was HORRIBLE. There were probably around 70 units on screen at one time, max. It kept skipping around when I was trying to scroll with the mouse or arrows, sounds were skipping around... Keep in mind this is all with the absolute lowest quality and screen size settings.

Just for fun I turned on higher quality graphics and set it to my native 1280x1024 screen settings, and it looked pretty cool, but also pretty slow.

See my computer specs below…

Post back with your experiences!

Runs pritty bad for me as well.......come to think of it so did >Diablo II< from blizzard as well.

Can ANYONE explain why.....My computer specs are below.

Thanx

Warcraft III plays at honorable speed on my Indigo G3/500 iMac. Note it wasn't before I added a 512M RAM chip.

Also note I'm using OS9.22 to play Unreal Tournament, Quake III Arena, Starcraft, Warcraft III and so on. Those ATI accelerators are just faster under OS9 than OpenGL is under OSX.22 !

Hmm, I didn't try it under OS 9, I should have. I play Starcraft in OS X with no problems, but it's not nearly as complex a game as War3.

MDLarson - I've never tried the demo version, but at least on the full version there are two things that might help -

1. Blizzard updated WC3 with some optimizations for Jaguar, although I don't know how much of a difference it really makes.

2. Video card! WC3 really uses your video card. For example, I loaded WC3 onto a PC with an Athlon XP 1700+, 512MB of DDR SDRAM, and a 40x CD Drive and it was slower than molasses!! Jerky everywhere even with the lowest settings. Guess what? I had an old video card in there. I put in a 64MB GeForce3 Ti video card and it ran smooth as silk on 1280x1024 with 32-bit color, and ran very well on 1600x1200 32-bit color as well, with all the extras on.

What video card do you have?

I find that my PB800 performs comparably to my friends' PC's. It would be very nice to have the new PB's with the Radeon 9000's but oh well! :) The only place I notice strange lag is when I'm playing on our LAN with other PC's. Extra laggy for some reason. Battle.net doesn't give me any problems though. Strange...

I've got the standard ATi Rage 128 in an AGP slot. I think it's got 16 MB video memory. I'd love to upgrade, of course...

Nope! :) I plan on it though. I deleted the demo and will have to redownload the 100 MB demo installer again. :(

i noticed games slowed down under jaguar, i think it has to do with the vid card being busy with quartz extreme :o

... I don't have QExtreme activated (I'm on G3) and the games did slow down anyway !

I think games slowed down like the rest of the coomputer slowed down with OSX. The system is more memory-intensive/fragmenting, sic.

Warcraft 3 flies on my DP867 with ATI9000...

... but then again, it had BETTER.

MDLarson:

Your Rage 128 is inadequate to the task, unfortunately. I have one in my iBook. Just not an up-to-date gaming machine.
