ISP with satellite/cable TV service?

Hi,

I am a german Mac user and would like to archive/view certain US TV shows (especially live performances from different music artists) which are broadcasted by certain public TV stations.
I thought about finding out a person or ISP who offers a dedicated (mac) server solution with a cable/TV connection, connecting an EyeTV unit and then transfer the recordings to Germany using the Internet.

If someone could be of any assistance, I would appreciate it very much.

Bye,
Klaus

What you want would be illegal for a US company/Person to do.

Are you sure? It surprises me a little because these public broadcastings I am interested in can also be received in other north-american countries outside the US.

Anything broadcast by NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, or other public stations (except for mayber PBS) would be illegal to retransmit. However if all you are asking is for someone to record a tv show or two so you can watch it later, I doubt that would be too much of a problem. Afterall whats the difference between what you are asking an taping a show using a video tape and sending it via the mail.

... and the transfer of the recorded shows to Germany would be considered as a sort of retransmission ...
(I do not agree 100 % but well ..;-)

I thought this would be the easiest way to get a hand on these shows without having to ask someone else several times a month.

...Only if you are broadcasting would it be illegal. However if you are simply recording for personal use, I doubt there would be an issue. But what you wanted was for an ISP or someone to record it and offer it freely via the web which would in essence be a type of public broadcast. Of course the size of such a transfer would be very large, which presents a problem. What specifically are you trying to record? How long would it be?

You'll probably have to ask someone to record the show for you.

Especially, I am interested in the Austin City Limits music shows which air on different public TV stations throughout the country.
But there are also several other music shows (like the VH1 storytellers or MTV unplugged series) which are broadcasted on an unregular basis.

My intention was not to use the dedicated server which records the TV shows as a normal Web server.
The system should only act as the recording device and only allow me to log-in - and then - by using a flat rate - transferring the movie files to Germany ..;-)
Well, in theory I thought it could work ..;-)

Bye,
Klaus
