Issue with hp deskjet 920c

Hi all!

First time on the forums, hope I can get some insight into a problem I'm having with my hp deskjet 920c.

I am a recent switcher from XP =P and am trying to get my parallel port printer to work with my new MacBook. I bought a parallel to usb converter cable, hooked it up, and it recognizes the printer and all. However, when I try to print a document, it comes out on loads of pages, with one thin line of writing on each page (I stopped it after 10 pages).

Anyone have any suggestions? All help would be appreciated.

Thanks for such a quick reply.

Couple questions..

1. Is it important that I remove any existing software/drivers before continuing or can I install over them?

2. On the link above.. should I use the "Driver" called Deskjet Software for Mac OS X or the "Printer Driver", called HP Inkjet Driver?

Thanks

Use the printer driver on the HP site. When you add that printer with the printer utility, use the correct driver. Delete whatever printer setup you have now before adding the new one.

Sorry I'm a bit of a newbie with OS X, but how exactly do I specify using that driver? I downloaded it off HP's website, then double clicked it and installed.

I say fine, then plug in my printer and it is immediately recognized by OS X as hp deskjet 920c. I tried printing again, and have the same issue. Now, how can I tell it to use the driver I got off HP's website?

EDIT: Also, I forgot to add, on the hp page it says that the driver I downloaded and installed was already included in tiger 10.4.

First, get to printer setup utility. This is easy with spotlight.

Next, select your printer and do a "Get Info"

Select "Printer Model" in the drop-down menu that is in the new window

Find the correct driver.

(I have different drivers than you do, probably. Select whatever is relevant to your system.)

edit: sorry, images seem to be disabled on this part of the forum for no good reason..

Try clicking the "Printer Setup Utility" menu, then "Reset Printing System...". After that, re-configure the printer with the correct driver.

It could also be some issue with the adapter, but we'll ignore that factor for now.

Nope, I reset the printer system, then added it back with the proper driver, and it still has the same problem. I guess it's a problem with the adapter?

Sweet! I did have a couple problems with your suggestion, but eventually figured it out and now it prints fine. However, it prints on line at a time and pauses for around a minute between lines. This is a very minor thing for me, and thanks so much both of you for helping me out, but if I was picky, do you have any known fixes?
