iTools and Omniweb

All iTools features, including the iTools Plugin from Apple, seem to work fine in Mozilla 1.0rc3

but i think its:

Preferences -> Compatibilty -> and from there, hold down the pop down menu, and choose internet explorer 5.1 for osx

only omniweb beta has the compatibility control panel. in my experience, iTools work fine with omniweb but only when you tell omniweb to use the netscape user agent. spittys description of how to do this is correct.

on a related note, i think its a little annoying that apples own website doesn t allow omniweb, when omniweb has been the default browser for OSX up until OSXPB, and the only browser available for many years. omnigroup has supported apple, i think apple should return the favor. javascript support in omniweb is not great though, and this release is only a beta, so i m not too annoyed.

Apple doesn't need to "support" a specific browser, they just need to write standard W3C code for their site, then everyone will be able to use it. Of course there may be issues with Omniweb as it doesn't fully support W3C yet, but then it would be Omniweb's fault.

of course i agree with you entirely. any computer company that is not trying to create a monopoly should not support non standard web code.

its apples bad practice to be checking what browser you are using. i just wish that if apple is going to be like that, they could just give omnigroup a nod, and let their browser in, since it works
