iTunes 7 not syncing contacts, calendar

I'm running iTunes 7.0.2, with a 60 GB Photo iPod running software version 1.2.1. I'm on a Mac iBook running system 10.4.8.

Ever since I upgraded from iTunes 6 to iTunes 7 (in both versions), I have been unable to sync my iCal and Address Book data to my iPod. When I click on the Contacts tab in iTunes, and try to check the box for Sync Address Book or Sync iCal Calendars, I get an error message that says "Contact syncing cannot be enabled because there are no contacts available. Do you want to open Address Book and create contacts now?" or "Calendar syncing cannot be enabled because there are no calendars available. Do you want to open iCal and create a calendar now?"

The problem is that I actually do have calendars and addresses available, and they were syncing fine before this latest software upgrade. I'm not sure how to fix the problem -- is it possible that this is just a settings problem?

Thanks for any help you can give.

I was having this same problem with my contacts only (calendar was fine). I backed-up my contacts from within address book and then restored them. After that the iTunes sync to my ipod went off with no problem. I would assume rebuilding your calendar in the same fashion would work too.

I'm having the same issue with my nano. I tried backing up, then restoring both iCal and Address Book, but still see the same issue. Something to do with the MacBook Pro firmware update?

That didn't work for iCal or Address Book...still getting the same error, even after repairing permissions.

Other ideas?

Hi,
I ended up taking my laptop to the Apple store and the "genius" basically copied my Library (/users/<user>/Library) to the Desktop so OS X could create a new version. Then I was able to sync my contacts and pictures and such. I also copied over some of my preferences (Firefox and the like).

Make sure you copy the Library somewhere, and not delete it, so you don't lose any information.

HTH,
pete
