itunes and 5.1 sound?

Hey all,

I have a 13" macbook core 2 duo, and I am having a problem getting itunes to play correctly.

I am using optical out to my 5.1 receiver, and while I can get 5.1 sound from digital ac3 ssources (which sounds excellent), I can't figure out a way to get mp3 playback through more than just the front two speakers.
Even to just clone the sound to the rear two surround speakers would be sufficient for me.
Is this possible? If so, how is it done? I have done some research but I could not find a solution to this.

Thanks in advance!

Your amp should have settings for that (fake dolby surround stuff). As long as the source _isn't_ 5.1, the Mac will always put 2.0 out AFAIK.

yup. the mac has nothing to do with it. only dvd player really works well in optical 5.1.

on your amp, choose Dolby ProLogic, or ProLogic II. that 'creates' the extra channels in a really clever way from the different frequencies.

alrighty....i didnt even think of that because with my old pc i wasn't able to change the sound on the receiver to pro logic for some reason. I did, and it sounds great now.

Thanks guys!
