I don't quite understand the first part of the question... I think you're asking about ripping a CD and which of the audio compression formats (MP3 or AAC) would be the best for that. I would have to say I prefer AAC at 192kbps. Be warned, though, if you rip a CD as an AAC file, then you cannot burn an MP3 CD. You can burn a regular audio CD that will play in any CD player, but you cannot burn an MP3 CD.

In regards to your question about AAC and AIFF, then you're going to get better results with an AIFF file because it's not compressed, and, therefore, you do not lose any quality. AAC compresses the file, so there's some fidelity loss, but the file size of an AAC file compared to an AIFF file is about 1:10. An AIFF file is typically about 40MB, give or take, and an AAC file is about 4MB.

You can partition your hard drive however you like, but I don't think you'll see any performance benefits by partitioning. OS X will run just as fast if you store it on one, big partition as it would if you installed only OS X on a smaller partition and had other partitions for music, data, or whatever. If you do partition, I would suggest at least 10 to 20MB for the OS X partition. You may only be using about 2GB of that right now like you say, but I guarantee that will grow over time, and since you have to reformat and reinstall when you partition your drive, it may be a pain to do that later.

I hope that helps!
