iTunes crashes when I open it...

Just went to open iTunes today - i got the spinning beachball and nothing happened. I tired to Force Quit but that didn't work so I went to the task manager and tried to Force Quit from there... After a few minutes it eventually quit. I tired again and it did exactly the same!

Any idea whats happened and how I can sort it out?

Macbook Pro 15"
OS X 10.4.8
2GHz Intel Core Duo
iTunes (Latest version, can't check as it will crash!!)
 
In this case I would try deleting the preferences for iTunes. Navigate to your User/(Your name)/Library/Preferences/ folder and delete the the com.apple.iTunes<x> file. Don't empty the trash yet. See if that takes care of the issue. if not, remove your iTunes library and re import your songs.
 
Ok, i'll try this! Though I'm not to keen on re-importing my songs as I have everything arranged by date added as I get a lot of promo's through to this computer. Would it solve anything if i reinstalled iTunes and backed up my library file?

Do you know what could cause this to happen? One minute it was working, the next minute it wasn't!
