I just installed iTunes, and I was only at the Welcome screen that was asking me questions about adding music and stuff, and my firewall is already coming up telling me it wants to access the internet.

What the heck is going on here?

I can understanding connecting to music store, but I disabled the music store, as well as checking for updates automatically and connecting to the internet when needed. So what the heck? Anybody else know?

My bet is that it is looking for other iTunes users on the immediate lan segement which are sharing their music library. My music on my mac just showed up when I put iTunes on my PC and that info had to travel someway. Look into any settings related to sharing music or rondevous.

It would only connect to CDDB if there were an Audio CD in the drive...

I would bet it's looking for shared music on the network. You can disable this in the Preferences under "Sharing."
