Itunes Genre List

The genre list can't be edited directly, but you CAN add items to it. It will always contain every genre represented in your iTunes Library, so to add an item to the list, make it the genre of at least one track. After that, it will always appear in the list.

to delete an item, make sure no songs in your library have that genre/change them to something else. once there is nothing in the library in that custom genre, it will dissappear.

except the standard iTunes ones, they will always be there.

Thanks Mikuro, for your advise. I will try to reduce my inflated genre list and see whats in there permanently in iTunes. Will be back if I get into trouble.

Remember that you can also change the genre of multiple songs in one swell foop by highlighting the songs in iTunes, doing a "Get Info" on those songs, then changing the genre -- so you can consolidate all the "ROCK", "rock", "Rock", "RoCk", "__Rock" and "Rock__" genres into one, single "Rock" genre, and you don't have to do the songs one at a time.
