iTunes Hangs Up

I am running OS X 10.3.9 and recently installed iPod software. Everything worked fine initially, but now when iTunes (4.8) opens, the wheel spins and I have to force quit to get out of iTunes. Any ideas?
 
I have the same issue. I've seen various posts that suggest deleting plists, widget plists, turning off the firewall, reinstalling itunes, downgrading quicktime (from 7 to 6.5.2).

I've rebooted after some of these exercises but am completely stumped.

Does anyone know how to get a copy of iTunes 4.7.1 to reinstall?
